My mom’s story will be short because we were told very little at the hospital. I hardly talked to her on the phone except via text because I was sick with Covid at my apartment. She brought her charger to the hospital, but when her phone lost power not one nurse charged it for her.
She and my dad lived with me. She wanted to go to the hospital because she felt she couldn’t breathe because she was dealing with Covid. The minute she got in there when I would ask for updates from the nurses and doctors, I was told she was doing fine. One day, I get a call that she was on a ventilator. However, I didn’t know that she was put on it. I didn’t get to call her because the doctor didn’t bother to even offer me to speak to her before she was placed on it. They lied to me about her already being on the ventilator because my brother talked to her at 5:30pm right before they put it on.
We were refused to see her. We only got to see her through a window while she was in the ICU. While she was on the ventilator, she was on it for a long time. It was hard to see her that way. A week before she died, she was getting better, then all of a sudden she took a turn for the worse and started having organ failure. She was improving before and in stable condition, but the next day they said her platelets were low and she went downhill from there. She was getting heavy dosage’s of Fentanyl. They had her really drugged up. It was awful to see her like that. I don’t recall seeing an IV for nutrition which we never agreed to stop giving her nutrition. Towards the end when they moved her out of the ICU, they started pressuring my dad and I to “let her go” and to do a DNR. One doctor threw a tantrum because we refused to sign the DNR. Another doctor told me that sometimes prayer doesn’t work.
While we were in the PACU room (where they had moved my mom to after she tested negative for Covid), I witnessed two nurses playing around with equipment and swinging it around laughing. I saw empty beds that were supposedly “full” according to the news. I also saw nurses on their cell phones while standing above patients in the PACU room. Another nurse saw my family gathered around my mom, when the doctors said she was going to pass away (so they let us in), this nurse says to another “see this is why we get Covid” as she gave us a dirty look. We also heard this same nurse verbally abuse a patient.
On August 31, 2021, my mom, Angie Murrieta, went home to be with the Lord. Clovis Community Hospital and their staff murdered my mother. And to make matters worse, they took her body and didn’t tell us where she was. The night nurse said he was going to send her to a funeral home nearby. Instead, they left her downstairs in the morgue for a few days and one of the workers yelled at me for saying that the night nurse told me that he would call a funeral home. She said, “we don’t do that!”
Also, because they placed Covid on her death certificate, the funeral home did not want to do a funeral. They just wanted to take her straight to the graveyard and bury her. We had to call the hospital again and ask for her medical records which stated that she had tested negative a few days before she passed away which is why they moved her from the ICU to the PACU floor. The hospital was refusing to release those records. At that time, they never released them to us. Praise God we were able to give her the Celebration of Life that she deserved.
Every day I think about her. I also think about how this shouldn’t have happened. She did not deserve to be treated like that. I have suffered from PTSD due to this whole event and my family has forever been changed. It’s only by the grace of God that we have endured this horrific tragedy. We know that with God on our side, we will see the victory just like David had against Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
Amen.
