December 21st tested positive for covid, went to St Joseph hospital, doc did not do x-ray even though he had bronchospasms and said he was not a candidate for treatment even though he had asthma and copd. Dec 27th my husband was having difficulty breathing, after midnight on Dec 28th we went to St Francis hospital, he was diagnosed with double covid pneumonia and admitted, he was giving Remdesivir and Dexamethasone.
After 19 days he was released on oxygen and meds.14 days home but he was only able to walk first day with walker as oxygen dropped to low, so we used a wheelchair to and from bathroom. We ended up calling 911 as he was having trouble breathing even while on oxygen. We were staying out east at our daughter’s, so second hospital was Stonybrook. Doc was about to release him 1 week later and he told her he did not feel well, and she said it is in his head, anxiety. Day of release pulmonologist came in raised his oxygen and recommended he stay. Next day rapid response came in and he was moved to ccu.as oxygen dropped too low. He went downhill after few days needed and was told he needed to be vented. Kidneys started failing and had liver damage.
Last 3 days then had two heart attacks from which he did not recover. He also became diabetic from steroids, had two blood clots in legs had wall motion etc. which was never tested further. They also said he had a bacterial infection on top of pneumonia but never determined which as they were behind in testing and treatment. He was on like twenty-five different meds etc. They made him worse. Neglected taking care of him, took 12 days for sheets to be changed and them helping wash him, 4/5 hours before being vented he woke up saying they were messing with oxygen which I was told they lower while patient is sleeping to wean them, crazy since they need it to breath. They gave him Xanax which I believe suppressed his respiratory even more. He had heart damage which was never checked fully.
Cardiologist wanted to test further when released. On Feb 10th ekg was abnormal and nothing was done. I do have a copy of records on cd from second hospital. There was so much I missed. All three hospitals messed up from beginning to end. My husband suffered.
