I (wife) got covid in late January and had a positive test at the doctors office. Our doctor was concerned about my husband who had a weakened immune system from having cancer in 2017-2018 and was still on low-dose chemo drugs. She asked my husband  to come in for a test right away. He was positive for covid that same day. He had had multiple myeloma in 2017, and had an autologous transplant in June of 2018. He was still on a low dose of a chemo drug, Revlimid and dexamethasone. He also was taking Fludrocortisone and Midodrine for a condition called Orthostatic Hypotension

Early on in his cancer treatment he was given a chemo drug called Velcade, a shot in the stomach, which caused him to have neuropathy in his feet and lower legs, which turned out to be permanent. He had to take three 300 mg. gabapentin a day to be able to stand and walk without too much discomfort. I had been taking a lot of supplements for covid support, but he didn’t like pills and always said he took enough pills and wouldn’t take extra C and D or zinc.. I requested that our doctor prescribe ivermectin and Azithromycin for both of us, which she did. She was shamed by the pharmacy for ordering these things for us. She also had to call around for availability and it was several days before she could locate it and then it took some time to go get it. Our son finally picked it up for us.

She also prescribed monoclonal antibodies for Lynn, to be administered at our home on the Feb. 1, 2022, but when they got here to administer them, they said his O2 stat was too low at 88 and they couldn’t go ahead with it. He needed to go to the hospital where he could get some oxygen.  I really did not want to take him to the hospital, but our doctor agreed he needed to go. He did have covid at that time, and his chest was pretty congested and his bad cough was not getting better. He had had the one round of ivermectin, prescribed by our doc the week before, plus the one round of Azithromycin, I had those drugs at the same time, and got over it very quickly. I took him to Medical Center Plano on 2/1/22, and he was admitted. That’s is almost the last time I saw him. He was put in a covid ward at the end of a long dark hallway, with no visitor admittance for anyone. He said they were giving him monoclonal antibodies by injection, I think he said in his IV line. He got one shot in the morning and another “booster” later in the day, everyday for several days. They said he would receive it for five days, I think. I have not obtained his hospital records. In spite of everything they were doing, he just kept getting worse.

I didn’t know he was getting remdesivir, and when I found out, I asked to speak to his doctor, and told him to please discontinue the remdesivir, and I also told him Lynn was just getting worse and asked if he could have ivermectin or HCQ. The conversational atmosphere immediately cooled and he said they were not allowed to give those things, couldn’t give high dose Vitamin C or D, or anything else other than the “hospital protocol”. Lynn’s sister travelled from East Texas to see him, but they would not allow her in, or his brother, with whom he was very close. He had a stroke a day or two after being admitted and they couldn’t stop it, it just kept spreading. I have read that remdesivir causes blood clots and kidney damage, which he was developing. They called me and wanted to put a catheter in his groin and go up into his brain to try  to stop the bleeding from the stroke, but he had to be intubated in order to do the procedure. I asked if he would ever be able to come off the vent, and she said she didn’t know, couldn’t guarantee it. We refused, and she said she would “reevaluate” and yes, maybe he could just have PT to take care of the deficits “after he recovered”, specifically physical therapy to be able to walk and speech therapy. The stroke kept spreading. It was on the left side, so he had lost a lot of speech, and right-side movement.

My daughter and I were allowed to see him on 2/7/22 in the evening. We had to wear double protective layers and double masks. I’m not sure he knew who we were when we saw him. he just kept waving his right hand around.  He didn’t or couldn’t talk to us. The hospital called me the next morning about 8 am to say he had passed away. I need to know what happened to him in the hospital. Did I cause his death by taking him there? Did he die gasping for breath? I can hardly think about it. Our 60th anniversary would have been 9/21/22, and I miss him every day.
