One of the last conversations with my mother, she said, “I felt like I was going to die”. She was talking about her low blood pressure that we eventually found out was due to internal bleeding. In her medical record it says that “the patient is in pain and worried that she is going to die.” My mother was scared, and alone with no one advocating on her behalf. We got twice a day phone calls from the hospital until they knew she wasn’t going to recover.

Then they let us in to see her. My mother, Sherrie, took a Covid test on 8/22/21. My nephew, who lived with my parents at the time, had tested positive the day before. The next day, she was able to get in contact with a doctor in Dayton, OH. This doctor was willing to prescribe Ivermectin and get her on antibiotics. Mom continued to feel bad and have really bad coughing fits.

She was concerned because her o2 stats had gone into the lower 90s. When this happened, she felt it was time to go to the hospital. She was taken by ambulance, my dad was Covid positive at the time as well (he ended up fully recovered). They did a chest x-ray and found that she had a small blood clot in the lung. Mom reported to us, and later her doctor, that the blood clot was not a “serious one”. When I spoke to the doctor about it, he said that if it got bigger or moved, he would be more concerned but that they wanted to keep monitoring it. For the first 2-3 days, my mother was doing ok.

She was talking to us on the phone and texting. She was prescribed Remdesivir the second day she was in the hospital. That started her down the path of destruction. From that time on her kidneys started to fail, she started to bleed internally, and her blood pressure wasn’t stable. They found an abdominal tear (we still don’t know what it was from), and continued to keep her on Remdesivir even though they understood the correlation between this medication and bleeding.

She was finally taken off of this medication when her kidneys were past the point of no return. My mother’s medical record also states that the doctor had no intention of continuing with Ivermectin when he found out that she was taking it prior to her hospital admission. We talked to the doctor twice about giving Ivermectin to her “Just to try it. What’s the harm at this point?” Both of these requests were refused.

My mother died on September 15th, 2021 after she was taken off of life support. We were able to be in the room with her. Instead of the vibrant, full-of-life mother that I had known, she was unresponsive and full of infection. I believe, that the poor care and terrible hospital protocol directly relate to my mother’s demise.

I do not want any other person to experience this terror, and any other family to have to deal with this heart-break. It has completely changed how I feel about hospitals, and the medical system in general. May her story help bring about much needed change for the good.
