Morris “Tony” Hollingsworth
Raymond Rush, 62, was not feeling well and 911 was called. The paramedics estimate that it had been 11 days from the onset of his symptoms and suggested he go to Urgent Care for what he thought was bronchitis. His symptoms grew worse and he went to the local hospital. From there he had to be transferred to another hospital because they did not have sufficient oxygen to treat him.
His wife, Linda, was not familiar with all the medical terms and procedures. Her sister-in-law assisted her and Linda asked her to speak to the doctors on her behalf. Her sister-in-law was quite clear when speaking with the doctor, no Remdesivir. On the same day Raymond was admitted to the second hospital, 11/26/21, he was intubated. He was kept in deep sedation and isolated until 2 days before he died when Linda was allowed an “end of life visit”. A friend went with her and they sang and spoke to Raymond. Praying for a miracle, a cold hearted attendant told Linda “He can’t hear you”. The attendant proceeded to tell her it was time to say good bye as she opened the door indicating Linda and her friend should leave now. The attendant advised Linda that her husband would be dead in 5 minutes.
As they sat out in the waiting area, distraught, two staff members promised to check on Ray’s status. No one ever returned. Finally an hour and a half later, she was told Ray had passed away. Throughout her ordeal, Linda felt totally helpless. Then just before leaving, she only wanted them to respect one request. She had to get his wedding ring.
Linda wants the answer to a simple question, Why did you treat us so poorly? We support Linda’s search for justice for Ray and honor him today with the telling of his story.
