My husband was not allowed any IVs even though he was severely dehydrated. They said they like top treat COVID-19 patients on the drier side even though he had not been tested yet much less gotten the results back of the COVID-19 tests. They also did not give him anything to eat until late in the evening or the next day, even though we asked several times. This may have been an oversight, but I'm not sure... badgered by an Xray tech in the ER about not getting the vax...repeatedly asked by doctors and nurses why we did not get the shot.

The medications were hurting more than helping. He became worse and worse in their care.

He was not given any hydrating IVs even though severely dehydrated - only allowed small sips of water and ice chips, food was not given until late in the evening even though asked repeatedly; denied Ivermectin even though we requested it as soon as we got to the ER; literally begged for it for 4 days...finally allowed it to be given but in too small a dose and too late; I was able to stay with Raul the entire time he was in the hospital. The were talking about putting him on a ventilator early on...finally went in the evening of July 19th...moved to the second hospital (Bergan Mercy) and put on ECMO on July 22nd. He passed away on Sept. 28, 2021.

Medications given: Remdesivir, antibiotics, Azithromycin, anxiety meds, atorvastatin, ceftriaxone, clonidine, dexamethasone, dexametomidine, Decadron, Dilaudid, enoxaparin, fentynal, heparin, insulin, labetalol, lasix, lovenox, midazolam, nimbex, Oxygen, pain killers, pantoprazole, paralytic drugs, polyethyleneglycol, precedex, propofol, Rocephin, sedatives, seraquel, Steroids, tocilzumab, Vancomycin, vit c

Even though our statute of limitations is up we are trying to go for Constructive fraud, but having trouble finding a lawyer...still trying.

My father has worked for the last 2 years going over Raul's medical records...we don't think we have them all because of the amount of records we actually received and the amount of time he was in the hospital. We received approx 8,000 pages (including some duplicates...) and he was in the hospital for 11 weeks. We had to request his records twice because we did not have nurses' / doctors notes; the original set came in Nov 2021 9approx 4,000 pages) and then we requested them again in March of this year (another 4,000 pages approx...some duplicates and some new information) . We requested EVERYTHING both times...so we now they are not being transparent with us. The records also came in an unorganized mess... some paper copies, some on a disk, some online that needed a password. My father organized them all and created spreadsheets detailing the medications, purpose, dosages, dates, times, side effects and reactions to other medications. we also had a board-certified independent physician look over both Raul's' records and my father's notes and write up his own report that Raul was not treated properly...standard of care of was not followed; they did more hard than help;

Summary of care:

My husband, Raul Osuna…..the sole owner and employee of a dental lab became completely exhausted and dehydrated after spending very long days preparing to go on a family vacation. 

Immediately after admission to Immanuel Hospital and discovering that Raul had not gotten the vaccines, opting instead to take vital supplements…..doctors immediately diagnosed COVID-19 without any confirmation of tests and prescribed remdesivir and Actemra without informed consent of Raul or me.  Informed consent for any EUA is required. Staff also denied Raul hydrating IVs, stating that “we don’t administer IVF to COVID patients” which is in direct conflict with the NIH protocol that they professed to follow. 

Lactated Ringers to treat dehydration was finally administered on July 17th……three days after admission.  I asked for, pleaded, begged for ivermectin and was completely ignored by doctors. The hospitalist in charge of Raul’s care actually lied stating that he was not the hospitalist and could not make ANY decisions (regarding Raul’s care).  This lie was caught on a recording and also supported by hospital records listing him as the hospitalist. Ivermectin was finally administered on July 18th. Several medications were given that had “difficulty breathing” as a side effect which doctors used to justify placing Raul on an ECMO machine for over 60 + days. Raul died September 28, 2021.

Action taken by family.

We gleaned over 8,000 pages of hospital records documenting Raul’s 11 week stay at Immanuel and Bergan Mercy Hospitals.  A family physician in Lincoln, NE reviewed our summary and most of these records and found several areas where “standard of care” was not followed.  We also filed a claim with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) against the hospitalist that lied to me. This claim was denied without even reviewing the 49 pages of supporting documents and a flash drive with the recordings mentioned above.  We also offered to provide more information and was available to answer any questions. No effort was made to investigate our claim.
