Andy was Handicapped could have this led to them not caring. Some of the nurses in the hospital didn't even know what Cerebral Palsy was and had to be educated on it by his wife.
Andy’s Story
Andy and his wife Debbie began having some mild cold symptoms just after Thanksgiving of 2021. One day shortly thereafter, Debbie returned home after a trip to her doctor and the grocery store to find her husband responding to questions by speaking mathematical equations. Concerned about a stroke, she tried to help him off the couch to the car so she could take him to urgent care. But it became necessary to call for an ambulance as his oxygen was in the 50s before seeking help.
Once taken to the ER, the Resident who came in to treat Andy told him there was nothing they could do for him because he was unvaccinated. This was despite the fact they hadn’t even tested him for Covid yet, and his oxygen was much improved with a bit of supplemental oxygen. From this point on there was much inconsistency in his care and in hospital policies.
After Andy was admitted to the hospital, Debbie obtained a Medical Power of Attorney from his lawyer. Which was delivered to the hospital for them to sign. Although it was signed and notarized it was never added to his medical records as it should have been. It was later found in a stack of some other things on the windowsill of his room. While unable to visit Andy in the hospital, the family was told by his nurse they were no longer allowed to FaceTime him because it caused him to become agitated and spike a fever.
Andy had Cerebral Palsy and several of the nurses there didn’t even know what that was. They had to have the disorder explained to them. His family was denied access, his pastor was denied visitation. Multiple requests for a patient advocate were never answered. Multiple requests for treatment with Ivermectin were denied. Andy was eventually placed on a ventilator for 3 weeks. The doctor’s response to Debbie’s initial refusal of Remdesivir and requests for Ivermectin was to say, “You can request whatever treatment you want, but you cannot tell me what to do as a doctor. If you want Ivermectin call your lawyer and get a court order.”
He was administered Remdesivir after being placed on the ventilator and received the full 5-dose course. A week before he passed he began experiencing renal failure. He passed on January 6, 2022. From the beginning, in the ER there did not seem to be much desire from the hospital to try to save his life. Andy was subjected to biased and inconsistent care based on his vaccination status. He was told he was going to die, refused the right to try safe and effective alternative treatment options. His family was subject to extra nastiness and prejudice for requesting them.
The pain inflicted on Andy and his family – a wife and three adult children – is unacceptable. The world lost a proud patriotic, kind, intelligent, loving, godly man when Andy passed. May he rest in peace.
