Name of Victim: Jason Cheney
Age: 44 years old
Admitted to hospital: 07/18/2021
Treatment received at hospital: Treated poorly
Experience in hospital:
My husband hasn’t eaten or drank anything for days. I had to ask for an IV to be placed. Was not checked on very often, IV was running all over the floor a few times.
My husband was sick but not deathly ill when he went to the hospital. I believe he would have been fine with just oxygen. He asked several times why he was even there, and why he could just go home. After the drugs were given, he rapidly declined until he ultimately lost his battle.

My 44 year old husband was healthy, hard working and active. He started feeling a little sick on July 10, 2021. He started feeling progressively worse, and on July 18, my sister in law who is an RN, stopped by to check his oxygen level. His oxygen was low and she called a Dr that she works with, he agreed that Jason should be admitted and placed on oxygen.
He arrived at the hospital for a direct admit, bypassing the ER. He was placed on oxygen and immediately started feeling better. Dr stated that he would start treatment with Remdesivir and Dexamethasone. Jason improved briefly and they said he could probably go home the following day. He had not been able to eat or drink anything for several days and I finally asked if they could place an iv so he could get fluids.
More than once I walked in his room to find his IV had come loose and was either soaking his bed or just leaking directly on the floor. Jason’s condition started to decline over the next five days, he was struggling to breath and ultimately ended up on bipap with 100% oxygen. The decision was made to transfer him to the ICU for intubation. I was assured by the ICU nurses that he had everything in his favor, he was young, healthy and no comorbidities. I talked with the Dr about trying Ivermectin and he said he would check on it.
Later I was told they were unable to get that medication at this hospital. After intubation, Jason’s organs slowly started to fail. The option of ECMO was discussed, but no surrounding hospitals had a bed open and they stated they are no longer accepting Covid patients. While intubated, Jason endured two pneumothorax, reintubation because of misplaced tube, ultimate organ failure and resuscitation due to code blue. Comfort measures were suggested by the Dr as cardiac arrest was imminent.
Jason ultimately lost his life at the age of 44 on July 31, 2021. Three of our kids were not allowed to see him while he was hospitalized, as the hospital was only allowing visitors 18 and over. They allowed the kids to come and say their goodbyes and he passed surrounded by family. I truly believe Jason would still be here if he were not treated with this hospital protocol. He should still be here.
