On 11-1-21 my gf Donna Pena had begun experiencing symptoms of Covid. She tested on 11-2-21 and received the results on 11-4-21 of a positive result. At this time she was 25 weeks pregnant with our son. I told her to message Kaiser hospital through their application of what she should take. They advised her to stay hydrated and take Tylenol. If symptoms persist then come to the ER.

On 11-5-21 she began to bleed so we grew concerned for her and our child. I proceeded to take her to Kaiser on Fresno and Alluvial that Friday night. They instructed her that I was not able to be with her at the hospital because I did not have a vaccine card. Then on 11-7-21 the hospital calls me at around 4pm and notifies me that I can visit her on the 4th floor.  As I arrived to Kaiser I went to her floor and she was on a high flow O2 machine.

The attending Dr had explained to us that there were only 2 options of treatment, the first being Remdesivir and I asked what were the pros and cons of this being used for my Gf and my son. His response was, “ it’s fine we have been giving it to other pregnant women and no side effects.” I then asked about the other. He then stated, “ the other is monoclonal antibodies.” I again repeated my question of the pros and cons. His response, “we don’t know.” And did not proceed to give me any other information. At this point he had mention an injectable steroid to help with opening up the lungs. We, my gf and I agreed to the steroid and Remdesivir.

That night 11-5-21 they moved her to the second floor ICU in room 201. I stayed with her until about 12:00am when I was told by icu nurses that I had to go. I proceeded to go and visit her in the icu from 11-8-21 to 11-11-21 in the icu. On Thursday night at Kaiser after I left they moved Donna from the ICU to the 4th floor where they were severely understaffed. They deliberately moved her knowing well enough in what condition she was In physically.

So the next morning 11-12-21 I get to Kaiser and they were not going to let me come up and see her. I pleaded with the floor director that she had expressed to me via text messages that she was having anxiety and panic attacks because of her isolation and forced oxygen from the high flow mask they had put her on. The director allowed me to come up and see her with a negative covid19 test.

Once I reached her room she had told me that she had called a nurse a few time asking where her meal was and that they were later then other days and she was hungry and tired. She while I was there began to get up and removed the sensors and o2 mask and I told her to wait, to let me get a nurse. She was adamant that she could do it and that she was fine that she wanted to go home. I try to get a nurse but she already went to the bathroom.

I heard a noise and opened the bathroom door where I saw her struggling to breath. I then try to pick her up to get her to the o2 mask but I was not able. So  at that point I laid her face down and ran to get help. Nurse that came in told me to flip her on her back which I did and that point she was blue. They rushed me out of the room where 20 or more people rushed in to revive her. The  emergency surgeon comes after about 10 mins and asks if I wanted to do an emergency c-sec because my sons heart rate was in the 50’s. I said yes.

At that point about another 20-30mins go by and the surgeon comes and tells me  that they didn’t have to do a c-sec because they were able to stabilize her  by sedation and intubate her. At about 4pm of 11-12-21 they had transferred her back to room 201 in the icu where they had to perform a bedside emergency c-sec because my sons heart rate was fluctuating too much.

Once my son was delivered I was briefly able to seen him in the incubator, he was born at 26 wks and 905g, which is just under 2lbs. I was notified that I was not able to see him for at least 10 days because of the protocol at Valley children hospital where he was transferred, which is located in Madera, Ca.

The following morning is when an icu and ECMO machine had opened up at Fresno Community hospital. They transferred Donna on 11-13-21, where I was not allowed to see her because again I did not have a Covid “vaccine” and so I had to wait to get tested that Monday because most testing sites were closed over the weekend.

Whilst at Fresno community they had to perform a Tracheotomy because they had already had the tube for about 17 days. Within this time they had put Donna on ECMO which is a form of life support. She was heavily sedated and on various medications to try and reduce inflammation of her immune system which was causing more damage to her lungs.

She was put on ECMO for just under 2 months in which Drs had tries d to gradually take her off certain types of medications. In total she was in the hospital for 4 months and was discharged on 3-4-22.
