Steve was a beloved maritime instructor. He just came home from teaching in Charleston on a Friday. He mowed the lawn without a mask, which is a no no for him. So at the beginning we thought it was bronchitis. That has happened before. Saturday and Sunday he taught again virtually and he was tired. By Sunday he was feeling worse. Monday we both had fevers. Tuesday I got him to the doctor’s office but our doctor was out of the country.
We had talked with him the month before on what would happen if we got covid. We were not vaccinated. Our doctor didn’t think it was right for us at the time. He said he would prescribe Ivermectin but fill in doctor wouldn’t. Fill in doctor wouldn’t listen to Steve and he was very upset. I was not allowed to go in. He got a false covid test. 2nd thing to go wrong.
I wasn’t as sick as Steve. I had him on a nebulizer for bronchitis. We were both sleeping a ton. Finally got him to agree to go to another office in the medical group. That doctor on thursday 17th. We got test in the parking lot. Came back positive. She ordered different stuff and stuff for nebulizer. Did another televisit on friday because he wasn’t improving. Pulse ox was dropping.
By Saturday morning Steve said he was having a hard time breathing. I called for an ambulance. He was admitted to Lawrenceville hospital but then moved to Duluth location. Nurse was great. He was doing what they asked. Prone positions too. He was on a mask. Wednesday I didn’t have communication with him. Friday he was on ventilator. I finally got to see him Saturday. He died Tuesday night. I was allowed back in to be with him when he passed.
The first doctor he had was doctor doom and gloom. Wanted a DNR immediately. 2nd doctor was very good. Took time to explain things to me. But no one wanted to do IV vitamin C or Ivermectin.
