My beloved husband Michael, stepped over into his heavenly home February 16th, 2021, after he was killed with a medication called REMDESIVIR (RDV).
Michael was a healthy and active 61-year-old man. He was on no medication and had no underlying health issues when a Covid diagnosis was issued to us in late November 2020. We had no idea what was to come from this moment, this diagnoses, this medication.
Michael loved his life! He was a father, grandfather and great grandfather and he loved every minute of it. He enjoyed working and helping people. He had a genuine love for people. After graduating college and bible college he pursued music with his music degree. He was also naturally gifted at singing opera. Both led him to many new things, including leading praise and worship wherever the Lord led him throughout his life.
Every adventure through his life, rather with family, friends or even work led to peaceful hearts and a welcomed relationship. He was truly cherished by all.
With Thanksgiving approaching, both he and I were under the weather and visited our local clinic in November 2020. Shortly after I received a call that I had tested positive, and Michael was negative. I explained that Michael felt bad and was stating it was difficult to breathe. They said, “well just assume he has it also and quarantine”.
On or about November 30th, 2020, Michael stated that he really felt like he could not breathe and asked to go to the hospital. He was diagnosed with Covid Pneumonia. He was sent home with no medication, no inhaler or breathing treatment…nothing. He was given a pulse oximetry. This is a device placed on the end of your finger to display your oxygen saturation. They explained to him that the REMDESIVIR was not in stock, and he would be contacted once it was available.
December came and Michael could not breathe. When we arrived back at the hospital, they did not want to give him oxygen. I couldn’t and still do not understand why.
As his wife, I pressed it and finally they admitted him into the ICU and gave him oxygen. This is all I was able to do at this point. Pray, YES! But physically I could not be with him. He was stable and was able to sign for his medication. Due to hospital Covid policy in our area, this was the last time I would see Michael until February 2021. Michael was waiting on what the doctors called “the lifesaving drug” REMDESIVIR.
Within a few days and with Michael communicating through an iPad to me, the REMDESIVIR arrived. Michael was given (5) consecutive doses. During this time Michael was communicating through the iPad and phone. It was difficult at times for him, but we talked often.
As the medication got in his body, Michael began to have severe issues.
This “lifesaving drug” began to attack his organs. He was air lifted by plane to Fairview Hospital in St Paul. He was sitting on the iPad with me during his transfer. He said “Honey, everything is going to be alright”.
He was airlifted in the evening and around 4 am the next morning I received a call from the doctor. He stated that he told Michael that in order to save him he would have to put him on a ventilator and paralytic to try and save his life. I was told that Michael was Sepsis, that his lungs had holes in them, and they had collapsed, that his blood sugar was spiked, and the doctor said, “MICHAEL IS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE”.
I, along with two of our adult children, drove to Fairview Hospital. It had only been two weeks since this had begun. I had only seen Michael over the iPad. Michael was not only put on a ventilator and paralytic. He was also given Fentanyl, morphine and was on dialysis because his kidneys were shutting down. Confusion and disbelief sat in as they kept stating we are following protocol.
After a few weeks Michael was sent to a new area of the hospital, this was called the Covid Hospital. Later I would be told this is where they take Covid patients to die. During this time at the hospital in ST PAUL my husband’s lower intestines had to have surgery because it was being attacked, he had flat lined 3 times, and he was given a tracheotomy. It was truly unbearable. My son said “mom, please tell him he can go home”.
As Michael lay in the Covid Hospital the doctors kept encouraging me to shut down all machines. I felt very pressured by them. My husband was a strong man of faith, and we believe in healing. How could this life-saving medicine do all of this and in such a short time? How did he arrive in St Paul like this?
