The Interview with David Polanco
David Polanco’s Story
Carol and David came down with symptoms of covid around the same time, 8/16/21. Although David’s symptoms were mild, Carol went to Urgent Care on 8/24/21 where she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She had to wait several hours before being transported to the hospital. Once there, Carol was isolated from her loved ones. Both she and David were very upset with the isolation.
David held a Medical Directive for Carol and advised the hospital that they were not to administer Remdesivir to her. His directions were explicit. “Do not give her Remdesivir. It’s a bad drug.” David rarely had an opportunity to speak with a doctor. Most communication was with Carol via cell phone text messaging. David, after finally testing negative for Covid, was still denied visitation with Carol. Four days into Remdesivir treatment, David told the doctor to stop it immediately.
Because they had stopped the Remdesivir and a couple of days before Carol and David expected her to go home, they forced a BiPap machine on her. She became very stressed and upset. David was told they had to ventilate her “to calm her down”. She was moved to ICU and he was again not allowed to visit.
On 9/12/21, David received a call from the doctor saying that the family could come and visit. When they arrived, the doctor told them there was no hope for her recovery and they should terminate life support. Her oxygen level was too low to maintain. David said it sounded like a sales pitch with a “cold bucket of water” thrown on us. He was allowed to visit and hold her hand as he said his final goodbye to his dear wife.
The memory still haunts him today of hearing his wife in the background, calling out, when he checked in with the nurse by phone to see how Carol was doing.
