The doctor called us and said that my husband will die if he does not get on the vent. Well, they were wrong, he ended up dying anyway. After five days of being admitted to the hospital they put him on the vent and he was on it for eight weeks. When I called for updates during the time my husband was intubated, there were a few nurses that would say that I was selfish for not pulling the plug on my husband. I would cry and cry.. I could not see him for the first five weeks. I zoomed him while he was on the vent, intubated, heavily sedated, and paralyzed. For the last two weeks of his life, I visited every day and stayed for 2 to 3 hours, sometimes they pushed me out after two hours. I believe that was the limit.

He was not awake but I prayed for him, sang to him worship songs, and read the word of God to him, even anointed his head with oil. I never gave up hope! Every weekend seem to be a struggle with the staff who didn’t care as much. I called five times a day especially right before shift change so I could receive an update. Spending that last Friday night with him not thinking it was his last Friday night I called before I went to bed at about 11 PM, “for some reason this time I said please call me if anything goes wrong”. Didn’t receive any call throughout the night but never did during the eight weeks. I called at 5 AM usually my first question was what was my husband‘s oxygen level, The overnight nurse said 79. That was not good.

Although he was receiving 100% oxygen he always was staying above the 88 marker which was his goal. I said why didn’t I receive a call? The nurse proceeds to say that’s normal for Covid patients. I said not for my husband. I called my son who was supposed to call the charge nurse but couldn’t get ahold of her. I called to connect the lines with my son and now my husband‘s oxygen level was at 69%. The charge nurse said you need to come down. Through the eight weeks, we had 2 to 3 other emergencies, so it didn’t seem out of the ordinary to come down, but I was concerned about his oxygen level dropping.

When I arrived at the hospital and saw my husband I knew something happen overnight. He seemed distressed, struggling, I couldn’t handle it. It was the worst sight. My son shortly arrived after me. That Saturday morning October 2 2021 we said goodbye to my husband. It would’ve been our 28th wedding anniversary this past Friday, March 11, 2022. My husband and I did ministry together, and he was my best friend! Although we may have spoken of things like this happening we are never truly prepared for this worst to happen. I know my husband is in heaven, he was an amazing man of God. I know that God numbers our days and not a day sooner.

It hurts tremendously that my husband is gone. But my prayer is that Jesus will be glorified through my pain. Making beauty from ashes! If there’s anyone in this group that does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior, please consider getting right before him today. My husband and I witness to several people about what Jesus did for them on the cross. Talking about how life is but a vapor and we’re not guaranteed tomorrow. Those statements/Bible verses have so much more weight and truth behind it than ever before.
