I was out of town taking care of my brother (which is another case). I talked to my husband on Monday night on the phone, at home, and he was very ill! He went to our doctor the next morning. They gave him a double Z pack, and said to return if he had further problems!
I video called him every day, and I didn’t come home because both he and my brother who we were staying with at the time, also got COVID-19 and was very ill! By the end of the week, he just kept going down hill, and I finally got hold of him. He was very close to dying, so I had my brother take him to Troy Beaumont Hospital, because that’s where our doctor’s practice was! They only allowed my brother to drop him off and leave!
The first few days I couldn’t get in contact with anyone but a nurse. They said the doctor would have to call me, and as I said, I talked to the nurses several times a day. I left many messages for the doctors handling his case, and of course that was in a lockdown unit of the hospital! Finally, they got hold of my husband’s daughter, and she asked what phone number were they calling. It was wrong, so she gave the correct phone number to them!
That’s when I got the first call about them knowing any of his health history, and he was too weak to give them any! The next call I got, which I believe was the same day, they told me they had to remove 500ccs of blood because it had thickened. This didn’t make sense since he was taking Eliquis 5 mg., twice a day, since his open heart surgery after they changed him from warfarin!
The next call I got was they vented him and moved him in Critical ICU! I had left my brother to go home to take of him, and I got very sick. Finally 3 days before we took him off the ventilator! They said they didn’t care if I was sick I could come. As I said earlier, by the time I saw him, I knew in my heart that he had stroked when they removed the thickened hemoglobin from him!
As soon as I saw him, I knew he was gone, but I found it very odd that no doctors had time to come and talk to me! I asked them if I should call his daughter home, because she lived in Maryland ,and I wanted her here. At first they hesitated, but said yes since she was so far away!
They met with her early the next morning because she was staying near the hospital, and I had to drive from Davison, Michigan, which is an hour drive. When they met with her, they stated they didn’t think he would survive, and due to the fact he had early onset Alzheimer’s. They said even if he did come out of it, he wouldn’t be the same!
We made the decision to remove him from the ventilator – the only thing was keeping him alive! The other issues I had was he always had high blood pressure, and now they were giving him vasodilators because they couldn’t keep his pressure up! They had him completely paralysed! Slowly, they turned off the medication, and within 30-45 minutes he was gone!
There is probably more but it’s the best I can do at this time! I am convinced that they did this to my brother who just passed August 18,2023. His battle took 21/2 years of a huge shit show (pardon my expression), but that is a whole other case. I will file on his behalf also, since I was his medical durable power of attorney! I just can’t write all that out after doing this!
