Dave was my husband for 32 years. He was healthy, strong, no underlying conditions, and on no medications. When we caught Covid, he needed some stronger meds and heading to the hospital didn’t seem that scary. He would get the proper treatment and be home shortly. That didn’t happen. Dave got progressively worse. Remdesivir wasn’t working. We had a meeting with one of the doctors (I wasn’t allowed in the hospital, so I was on speaker phone).
Dave asked the doctor for Ivermectin and/or Hydroxychloroquine. The doctor said these were dangerous drugs, not proven effective, and not hospital protocol. Dave told him that he was killing him if he didn’t try these drugs. The doctor said no. I believed the doctor; he was the expert. I didn’t advocate for Dave, and I will regret that decision for the rest of my life. I was wrong, Dave was right. He continued to decline until his only option was intubation. Two hours after being intubated, he suffered 2 heart attacks. They were able to bring him back but the next day he had 2 more heart attacks and passed away at 2:30pm on 12/10/20.
