My Mom, Charlotte Ulmer was sent to Hardin County Medical Center on November 10th 2021 by her PCP to receive the Monoclonal Antibodies Infusion. When she got there the hospital Staff, said she can not get it due to her O2 being 79. Without informing her of what they was doing, they took her to the ED for O2 treatment. They gave her 1000mg Rocephin and that was the only dose of antibiotic received during her stay at Hardin and started labs.
While they was doing that, they had my dad sign all the paperwork and told him they was admitting her. Mind you, my moms Alert Status was charted, “ALERT X4” meaning she was alert enough to sign her own papers and my dad had major brain fog because he also had Covid as bad as my mom. How was she that alert with O2 at 79 also? When my dad called me and let me know what was going on, I immediately messaged my mom. She didn’t even know they was admitting her.
She also informed me, they told her before they received any results of any test that they didn’t want to scare her but Covid was winning. She was admitted on Nov 10th and the last day we received a text from her was the 11th. After that Everyone was blowing her phone up with text messages with no response but according to medical records she was alert x3 and x4 till the 13th. I called the nurse since mom wasn’t responding and she said mom was with it, but if that was the case she would have responded to someone. Not one person ever called my dad me, or siblings on any Status Changes! Apparently, according to her Medical Records she had several.
My sister called every day sometimes twice to get updates and she also got different info, nothing was ever the same. The day of the 14th I was able to actually hold my head up some, so I had a friend take me to Hardin County Medical Center to talk to the Physician that was staffed. Needless to say that didn’t go very well. The Physician on staff REFUSED to give mom Ivermectin, any Antibiotics, VITAMIN C, D, and Zinc upon request. I asked to see her to make sure she was okay and of course they refused. So, I told them I was calling the law to do a wellness check. He said there was no reason for that. Then I said I want to have her transferred to Jackson Madison.
At 1st he was reluctant and said no one will probably take her, because of the type of transfer she would be considered. He finally said he would check to see if anyone would take her. In the mean time I’m still trying to get back there to check on her. I asked the Nurse if she could get me a Patient Advocate, Social Worker, or Ombudsman. She said no one like that is available on the weekends. I said well I need to talk to someone that will advocate for my mom. The nurse said hang on. They called one of their ED Nurses. This nurse and me went to the Chapel and spoke. She went to check on my mom for me and came back to let me know. About that time, my moms nurse came in to let me know that got mom a transfer to Jackson and that I can go back to my mom now?
I walk in to her room to find her slid down in the bed to the point her draw sheet and chuck was under her head, her pillow was above her head. She was in restraints, supposedly because she was taking her mask off. Apparently, she was even doing this when she was Alert X3 & X4. She had full body Edema. You could even see the edema (swelling) in her eyes (cornea & conjunctiva) plus yellowing. She was moaning non stop like she was in constant pain or suffocating because of the leakage rate on the Bi-pap. Her mouth and lips was awful from where they had not been providing mouth care.. She still had a bra and tank top on under her gown she wore to the hospital.. Her IV Was not taped down..
Her hair was in knots. Someone even put her phone on silent behind her bed out of reach along with her necklace along with her glasses, engagement & wedding ring was. See the bedside table way behind her bed in the corner. That’s where I found her phone with volume on silent. The only time my mom ever put her phone on silent was when she worked and she was at work. She didn’t ever take her rings or necklace off for anything.
From the few hours I was there in her room, waiting for her transfer, hospital staff never stepped foot in her room, even when I called the nurse to the room because the EKG Alarm was going off. The 1st Air Evac team that got there was the ones who came in the room to fix the machine and check her. Luckily it was just a lead that came lose. They stayed until Vanderbilt Air Evac got there.
According to her medical records her leakage rate was as high as 79 on her C pap/Bipap for most of the time she was there. Also In BOLD LETERS SAID NOT VACCINATED! I seen a lot that does not sit right with us that’s in her 200 something page records.
When she got to Jackson they started her on Antibiotics, Vit C, D, Zinc. She was dehydrated, had bacterial Pneumonia and said she was Toxic (whatever they meant by that) Unfortunately, we didn’t get her to Jackson soon enough, because she died approx 24 hrs after she was admitted.
From what I seen and experienced this place is not set up to take care of patients with Covid with the need of Bi-paps and C paps. We won’t stop fighting cause we know our Mom would not stop fighting to help and save others!
My mom was a LPN for 30+ yrs. She would have had a fit to walk in a room and find a patient in this position and would have let it been known even if it cost her her job. She wouldn’t put up with any patient to be done wrong in any way. She was one that always went above and beyond her call. But she was more than a Nurse to her patients. She was an Advocate for her patients and she took them under her wing like family. She was a Very Special person and not just because she was my mom…
Mind you, 5 out of the 6 household members had Covid at the same time. Everyone survived, even the oldest at 77, except the one who was hospitalized and given Remdesivir.
They was also giving her Haldol by IV and its not APPROVED my the FDA to be given by IV. Her Ativan was for every 4-6 hours and it was being given more often than that according to her records.
