My husband had been sick for a couple days, but got to where it was hard for him to breathe. I called the ambulance, and they took him to the hospital because his oxygen level was low. I kept in contact with Johnny through texting.
He was taken to our local hospital, Troy First Health. They said he had Covid, and kept him. I don’t know what meds they had him on cause I couldn’t be with him – Covid protocol: NO VISITORS. He said he felt okay; just couldn’t breathe real good.
The next day, which was October 8, 2021, they moved him from Troy to Richmond County Hospital. This was on a Saturday. We texted back and forth that day, and he told me they started him on Remdesivir (I can’t spell it), and his doctor was looking for good results. Sunday morning, around 4 A.M., they called me and told me they were going to have to vent him. If they didn’t, he would die, so I told them okay. Like I said, I couldn’t be there, and I never talked to him again.
His nurses kept me updated. They made it sound good for a while, and then all of a sudden, his organs were shutting down. They called us in on October 18, 2021, and pulled him off the vent.
Now, I’m not sure what all meds they had him taking, but I do know fentanyl was one, and a large dose. Also, the Remdesivir medicine mentioned above.
I had to sit in front of a glass door and tell my husband of twenty years, goodbye forever through a door. I beat, and yelled, and cried. It’s so unfair. He was only 59. I’m only 61. We were supposed to grow old together. We still had a lifetime to go, and they took that from us, and from many other people too.
