We Call Him Andy
They had their version of the story. We have the truth.
Andy walked into Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center on February 10, 2021. His leg hurt. His breathing wasn’t right. He was sick, but still strong enough to fight. He texted his sister when he got there, repeating what the nurse told him: “We’re not worried about your leg. We’re worried about saving your life.”
That was the last time Andy ever walked into a hospital on his own.
The Transfer That Should Have Never Happened
Andy needed a bronchoscopy—that’s what his doctors said. The plan was for him to transfer to Norton’s Hospital to get it done. But something changed.
Somewhere between February 15th and February 17th, his transfer was re-routed. Twin Lakes had documented Norton’s in one part of his records but Owensboro Health in another. Suddenly, Andy had no choice. He was told he was going to Owensboro Health—or he would die.
So Owensboro took him. As a COVID-19-positive patient.
Except Andy had tested negative for COVID-19 on 2/10/21 at Twin Lakes.
And just like that, everything became about COVID-19 instead of the truth.
Ignored. Forgotten. Lied To.
Owensboro Health didn’t reach out to his specialist at UofL, Dr. David Seligson—the man who had been overseeing his care for months. Instead, they ignored his worsening symptoms.
Andy’s oxygen dropped. They called it an accident.
Andy knocked his cannula off in his sleep. They called it an hypoxic episode.
Andy’s blood pressure responded when he heard his sister’s voice—but they declared him brain dead anyway.
On February 21st, Andy suffered a stroke. At 1:20 AM, they documented it, but hours before that, he had already shown symptoms. He had texted his sister the night before—a photo with the right side of his face drooping. The proof was there. They ignored it.
Doctors delayed giving him TPa, the clot-busting medication that could have saved him. A voicemail left on Andy’s own phone proves that Dr. Bilal was planning to retrieve the clot—but then changed his mind.
They did nothing.
Decisions Made Without Us
Andy’s family was locked out of the hospital. They were told that being there would void his medical rights because of COVID-19. So they relied on phone calls—calls the doctors weren’t even making to the right number.
Meanwhile, the Ethics Committee held a meeting about Andy—without his family.
At 5:34 PM on March 1st, they changed his code status to DNR. No consent. No discussion. No explanation.
And while his family was fighting for him, KODA (Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates) was already at his bedside.
Andy wasn’t even an organ donor.
Yet, from February 23rd to March 2nd, KODA was contacted SIX times. Only three of those calls were documented.
The Call That Changed Everything
On the morning of March 2, 2021, UofL Orthopedics received an emergency transfer request for Andy.
Minutes later, Owensboro called back.
“Cancel the transfer. The patient is deceased.”
But Andy’s records show that the hospital already had his destination marked as ‘morgue’ before he even died.
A death certificate wasn’t issued for eight weeks. When it finally was, the dates didn’t match. One document said February 26th, another said March 2nd.
Who gets their own date of death changed?
Who gets a doctor to sign off on a brain death exam while still on paralytics?
Who gets a house supervisor to sign off on their death—when that supervisor doesn’t even exist?
They Thought We’d Let This Go.
They thought they could rewrite history. They thought that no one would fight for Andy.
But we do.
Every day, we live with the questions that haunt us. What if Andy had gotten the bronchoscopy? What if he had gone to Norton’s like he was supposed to? What if they had actually treated the sepsis instead of ignoring it?
What if they had listened to his sister—instead of cutting her out of the conversation?
But here’s what they didn’t expect:
We have every document. We have every inconsistency. We have every phone call.
We have the truth.
And we will not stop until the world hears Andy’s story.
Because we don’t call him brain dead.
We don’t call him a mistake.
We don’t call him a case number.
We call him Andy.

Doctor and Medical Staff Ratings (1 = Worst, 10 = Best)
1-2 (Severe Negligence & Directly Responsible for Harm)
Dr. Brad Brasher (or “Paula” Brasher) – Conducted a fraudulent brain death exam while Andy was still on paralytics, making the results invalid. There is no record of Paula Brasher ever working there, making this a serious ethical and legal violation.
Ethics Committee (Multiple Physicians) – Changed Andy’s code status to DNR on 3/1/21 without family consent. Made life-ending decisions in secrecy.
Dr. Goebel (Neurosurgeon) – Dismissed Andy’s stroke as un-survivable, influencing the push toward withdrawal of care instead of treatment.
Dr. Bilal (Neurology) – Withheld tPA despite clear evidence of stroke within the treatment window. He initially considered clot retrieval but then changed his mind for no documented reason. His records contradict themselves about stroke onset.
Dr. Sarah Neil (MD) & Jackie (PA) – Failed to monitor Andy properly after his stroke. Instead of recognizing a medical emergency, they let him suffocate in his sleep, blamed him for knocking off his oxygen, and called it a “hypoxic episode” instead of preventable medical neglect.
Dr. Melanie Farrell (Ethics Committee & Internal Medicine) – Played a role in changing Andy’s code status to DNR without consent.
3-4 (Severe Negligence & Enablers of Harm)
Owensboro Health & Sedgwick Administrators – Interfered in the case, ignored complaints, and treated Ellie’s concerns as a “grievance” before a claim was even filed. Clear conflict of interest between workers’ comp and hospital liability.
Dr. Muhammad Bilal & Dr. Farrell – Created inconsistent documentation that deliberately downplayed the severity of Andy’s condition while pushing a COVID narrative that didn’t align with his actual health issues.
Some ICU Nurses at Owensboro – Failed to intervene when Andy’s oxygen levels repeatedly dropped, even after clear evidence of signs of life after being declared brain dead.
5-6 (Bare Minimum Care, Didn’t Fight for Andy)
Dr. Jenkins (Twin Lakes) – Knew Andy needed a higher level of care but didn’t push hard enough to ensure he was properly transferred.
Some Respiratory Therapists – Noticed drops in oxygen levels but failed to act fast enough or challenge wrongful medical orders.
Some Nurses at Owensboro – A few documented inconsistencies (such as Andy’s oxygen struggles and ventilator issues) but still followed harmful orders instead of advocating for better care.
7-8 (Tried to Help But Were Overruled or Shut Down)
Dr. Seligson’s Team (UofL) – One of the only teams that actually knew Andy’s medical history and likely would have intervened had Owensboro Health communicated with them. When Ellie reached out, Seligson wanted to come help, but the hospital stalled communication.
9-10 (The Only People Who Truly Cared & Fought for Andy)
Ellie (You) – The only person who fought against the system, uncovered the lies, and refused to let them rewrite Andy’s story.
Andy Himself – He fought for himself. He repeatedly told the doctors he needed more oxygen, he spoke up when things felt wrong, and he held on longer than they expected—because he wanted to live.

Final Verdict
Most of the medical team falls between 1-4—completely negligent, unethical, and in some cases, complicit in covering up their own mistakes.
The few who tried to help (5-8 range) were ignored, overruled, or not consulted at all.
Andy was admitted to Twin Lakes on 2/10/21 for leg pain, respiratory distress, and infection concerns, yet his symptoms were ignored and mismanaged. He was initially scheduled for transfer to Norton’s for a bronchoscopy, but without explanation, the hospital redirected him to Owensboro Health, where they labeled him COVID-19-positive despite multiple prior negative tests. At Owensboro Health, his care was riddled with delays and failures: Stroke treatment was delayed, with tPA withheld despite symptoms. Doctors failed to monitor his oxygen, leading to a preventable hypoxic episode that resulted in ventilation. His code status was changed to DNR on 3/1/21 without family consent. KODA was contacted about organ donation while Andy was still alive. Ellie secured Dr. Seligson’s help, but the hospital blocked communication. Records contradict his time of death, with discrepancies between 2/26/21 and 3/2/21. Instead of fighting for Andy, the hospital covered its tracks, altered records, and failed to provide transparency. His life was devalued, his family’s voice ignored, and his death manipulated to fit a narrative that protected the hospital—not him.
