The Interview with Audrey LeQuire
Chasity’s Life Mattered
Written by Audrey LeQuire(Mom )

My daughter, Chasity, went to a local hospital, Murphy Medical Center, in Murphy, North Carolina, on 9-4-2021.  She was told they would call her for an appointment for monoclonal antibodies, and they sent her home on oxygen because they had no space for her at this hospital.

Chasity had always struggled with anxiety and was scared, which is VERY understandable. She noticed even on oxygen that she was having shortness of breath walking to the bathroom. We decided to take her to another nearby hospital, Union General in Blairsville, Georgia, on 9-5-2021.

There, she was admitted and immediately started on remdesivir.  I know she wasn’t given the facts or side effects of this drug, or she would’ve never taken it. She trusted the medical “professionals,”  and told me she told a nurse she was scared and the nurse said to her, “You should be scared, you could die from this.”  I have worked in an independent pharmacy for 20 years and had NO clue what remdesivir was.  I tried to search it, and all I could find at that time was it was being used to treat COVID-19.  I saw absolutely nothing on the side effects!  I told her to ask them to give her ivermectin, and they actually did.

I wasn’t allowed in the emergency room with her, so I sat outside in my car.  They admitted her that night, but she had to wait a day or maybe two before a room became available.  Once she was in a room, I was allowed to visit once daily.  The nurses at this hospital all seemed helpful and nice.  Everyday, they would say her X-rays looked a little better… as soon as remdesivir was stopped, her X-ray was horrible and she couldn’t breathe well even with oxygen, so they had put her on a high flow bi-Pap machine.

She was getting anxious.  (Who wouldn’t be if they can’t breathe!)  I ask them to give her something for anxiety. The doctor came in and talked to us and ask if she wanted to be put on the vent to give her lungs a chance to rest and heal.  He told us it was going to get worse before it got better, and given an emergency situation if something went wrong, every second mattered and it might not have the same outcome. I f they put her on the ventilator now, verses an emergency situation, her lungs could rest.  She was young (30 years old) with no other health conditions, and that would put her top of the list to be transferred to a higher level of care facility. (This hospital didn’t have a pulmonologist at this time.)

She was struggling to breathe and agreed to this.  Once they took her in ICU to do the procedure it was taking longer than we were told. I was getting even more worried and anxious. The doctor came out and explained it took longer because Chasity had a pneumothorax and they had to insert a chest tube. No wonder she couldn’t breathe!

A day or two later, a family member called me to tell me a nurse had said remdesivir shuts down your organs, and not to let them give Chas anymore of that drug.  I looked up and see she’s getting remdesivir more right then.  The nurse came in so I ask him if that was true, his response was, “No not really.  We don’t see that in young people. It’s usually older people that already have heart failure or kidney problems.”  I believed him… because, once again, I couldn’t find ANYTHING negative about remdesivir online – everything was censored.

They finally got a hospital with a pulmonologist to accept Chasity, and the doctor came in and told me they didn’t know if what they did was right, but they hoped it was, and they hoped they bought her enough time to get her to a bigger facility.

After Chasity was transferred, I wasn’t allowed to see her anymore, but there was an intern who would call me and give me updates on how she was doing. The intern told me he was going to be transferred to a different department in a couple days… I begged him for a visit, I told him I knew it would help Chas, and me as well; we were always so close.  He told me he would try his best to get me a visit but no promises… The next day, he tried calling and there was cell tower issues, and I literally couldn’t hear anything… I said, “I can’t hear you, but if you can hear me, here’s my email address.  Please send me an email if you can hear me.”  He heard me and had gotten me a visit.  He sent an email telling me if I was there at 9 the next morning, I could meet the new intern and doctor as they made their rounds, and we could go over a care plan.  I was told the visit would be two hours and just I was allowed inside.

I was so excited; I could finally see my girl!  I arrived at the hospital (a two hour drive from where I lived) at 8:45 a.m.  I called the hospital to see which entrance I needed to go in and was told I couldn’t see her because the hospital was closed for visitors!  Thank God, I had my email.  I told the lady I was promised a visit, and I had driven two hours, and I was getting a visit.  She put me on hold and called the floor my daughter was on, she came back on the phone and I was told there was an emergency on the floor, so I wouldn’t be allowed up until later that afternoon. I ask if the emergency was my daughter, and I was told “No, but they have to keep the hallway cleared.”   I can’t remember exactly what time she said, but I think she had said around 2pm.

I drove to a store, and was walking around basically in a daze just trying to pass time. My cell phone rang and it was the hospital.  It was about 9:30 a.m., and they asked if I was still in the parking lot.  I told her, “No, I am about 10 minutes down the road.”  She said,  “Can you come back now?”   In my mind I thought, ok this is good. The doctor is making his rounds and he is going to go over a care plan with me.

I got to the hospital and the nurse met me downstairs to take me up.  We get to Chas’ room; I walk in, and there’s multiple people in there, like 6 or more people.  They are working with Chasity.  The doctor says, “She’s not doing good, and has been like this ALL night,”  He needs to know what I want him to do?  I said, “First of all, can we go in the hall?”  I didn’t like him talking negative in front of Chasity.  What if she could hear him trying to give up on her?!

We get in the hallway, and he again says, what do I want him to do?!  I said, “I want you to SAVE MY DAUGHTER!”  He once again starts telling me she’s been like this all night, off and on and her oxygen has been low, and they’ve been having to bag her.  I ask him if they had a chapel because I needed to go there.  They took me to the chapel, and I prayed and called some family for prayer and encouragement.

After about 20 minutes, the nurse came to the chapel and asked if I could come back because the doctor needed to talk to me.  I went back, and this time the doctor was waiting in the hall.  Once again, he was telling me she’s been like this all night and her oxygen had been so low that she would never be the same as she was that she would need months of therapy… I said, “Ok, I’m fine with that!  We could handle months of therapy.”  He replied, “You don’t understand.  If her oxygen would have been in the eighties, that’s okay, but it has been in the seventies, sixties, and fifties.”  He continued,  “She will never be the same, and I could break bones and injure her trying to save her, and it would be the same end result.”  I ask him if he had children, and he said he had a son.  I said, “What would you do if this was your son?”  He said, “I’d have to let him go>”  I told him to let her go peacefully.

He took that as comfort care and immediately started unhooking everything!  I felt like I was lied to!  I felt as though there was no emergency in her room all night, because no one called me.  Even when I asked earlier that morning, I was told the emergency was down the hall, not in her room.  I felt like they lied to me to convince me to do comfort care.  My daughter was killed by a medical professional that was supposed to do EVERYTHING he could to save her!!!!
