My mom was sick but nobody else around her was sick. I got a call from my dad that mom was on the floor and he couldn’t get her up. When I got there, her oxygen was low and we had to wake her up to talk to her. We didn’t know the hospital protocol was bad, so we called the ambulance.

They took her to the nearest hospital in Poplar Bluff and they tested her for Covid and it was positive. Again, no one else around her was sick with this “supposedly highly contagious virus”. They then sent her to Southeast Hospital. We were able to talk to her for a few days then they called us to let us know mom made the decision to be ventilated, we believe this to be untrue and if she did, her oxygen would have been dangerously low so she would not have been of sound mind.

She fell in the hospital twice. Once when the nurses were unaware because they said she wouldn’t leave her oxygen on or call for help when she needed up. My mom was not able to make sound choices at this point and I feel like that should have been discussed with family first. Of course, they were censoring life saving protocols and we were not aware at this time.

Her health continued to deteriorate and they would not allow us to see her and they kept her sedated so we couldn’t even FaceTime with her.  At the point they knew death was eminent, they called us in to see. However, they tried to deny her 93 year old mother from seeing her. My sister demanded they let her and the rest of us in to see her and they finally agreed.

It was horrific the shape she was in. They had her proned and she was so swollen all over that it was hard to see. We stayed for quite some time, only 2 at a time in the room and talked to her, prayed for her, and fought tears afraid she would know. I told her all of the things we would do when she came home.

On November 11th, we got another call so my sister and dad went to hospital. I stayed home with my grandmother so she wouldn’t be alone. They wanted the family to make the call to turn off the vent but we couldn’t do it. She was even more swollen and her arms and legs began turning black and blue. Her organs shut down and we didn’t have to make the choice.

It was after the fact that we found out about the life saving protocols. The hospital may have thought they were trying to save her but the one who set the protocols knew exactly what he was doing and I believe has blood on his hands from my mother and countless others.
