My grandmother started feeling sick Monday, December 27th 2021, and on Wednesday the 29th my dad took her to the ER.  My grandma lives about an hour away from my parents and me.  My dad went to stay with her since she lives alone and my mother was sick with covid. Half my family was gone because of the holidays, and I was the only grandchild that wasn’t sick and wasn’t out of town.

My dad stayed with her until he had to be at work on Thursday morning. So, I rushed to the hospital to be with her Thursday late morning. I stayed with her all day Thursday and until the night. They told us that I would get to stay with her even once they moved her to the ICU.

Late Thursday night, they came to move her, and it was then that they told me they were no longer moving her to the ICU, but that she would be going to the covid floor and I could not go with her. They were convincing them otherwise and it was cruel how they took her away from me like that. The last words my grandmother said to me were, “This is cruel and inhumane.”  I knew it my gut that that was the last time I was going to see my grandma alive.

Sure enough less than 48 hours later she was gone. They murdered her with Remdesivi, and I’m not sure if she was put on a ventilator or not. Something in her hospital paperwork makes me question if she was.

Before they took her she was talking and taking little sips of water, and she was even joking with nurses about her favorite football team the Denver Broncos.  She was sharp and alert. She had me FaceTime all her other grandchildren and her daughter.  She had me call her only living sibling left, her brother and her other daughter who lives out of state. She told every one she was going to make it and she was going to beat covid.  She wanted to still be here and to make it to her 90th birthday, which was only a little over a week away on January 8th.

She was in high spirits and wanted to get better and just go home. She was so happy I was there with her. She was doing good other then her shortness of breath.  She had no other issues.  No vomiting, no headaches, no fever or cough. She just needed a little oxygen.  I will never understand what happened but I know when they took her away she got worse, and before anyone even knew it, it was too late.  We had gotten the call to hurry up and get there because she didn’t have much longer.  I missed her only by a few minutes and didn’t get to say goodbye.  Thankfully, they let my mom and dad and my sister up to see her, and they made it before she took her last breathe.
